The residential development at 215 West 2nd Avenue is a collaboration between BC Housing, the City of Vancouver, RainCity Housing and Support Society, and the Katherine Sanford Society. Another example of Vancouver’s progressive urban planning, this housing initiative required a full security system design and the installation of a number of modern security features.

Project Overview:

This LEED Gold-certified residential development is located near the newly developed Olympic Village community on the south side of False Creek. Featuring an 11-storey tower and a six-storey mid-rise building, it is home to several ground-floor commercial spaces and 147 residential units, a portion of which will be reserved for tenants living with mental health or addictions challenges. Community health services and resources, peer support programming, recreational activities, and other community-building programs are easily accessible.

All potential security risks, life safety threats, emergency egress requirements, and different levels of access were taken into account when designing this fully programmable security system. Total building security was achieved by making all doors (internal and external) in the building, including common areas, controlled by programmable electronic card locks. Visitor access is controlled by an intercom and an elevator with floor control. A closed-circuit TV surveillance system monitors activity throughout the premises.
