The Pacific Palisades is a longtime Vancouver fixture and gathering place for visiting elites. Recently renovated from a hotel to an upscale rental community, the building required a complete security design and retrofit to meet the needs of urban residents living in the increasingly dense downtown core of a world-class city.

Project Overview:

The Pacific Palisades is comprised of two residential towers with ground-floor retail spaces in Vancouver’s trendy West End. The 23-floor Alberni Tower contains 128 suites and the Robson Tower is home to 106 suites on 20 floors. The conversion from hotel to modern residential community with both long-term and short-term rentals required a complete security design and building retrofit to maximize safety and convenience for residents.

After assessing the property for life safety threats, emergency egress requirements, potential security risks, and access needs of guests, residents, and retail visitors, Citiloc performed a complete security system design and building retrofit. The entire building was re-keyed and access control was upgraded at all entry points. Guest access is controlled via an entry intercom with elevator floor control. Short-term rental guests have the convenience of electronic locks and programmable key cards. The parkade has separate levels of access for residents and patrons of the ground-floor businesses. A video surveillance system enables monitoring of movement through the community. A programmable entry system for common areas provides maximum convenience for guests and residents.

The complete security system design and retrofit project for the Pacific Palisades involved integrating video surveillance, programmable electronic access control, and dual-level parking access to ensure that the community is in accordance with all emergency guidelines for a vibrant residential / commercial community in a dense urban centre.
